Rolla: Duo for 2 violas in F major

Rolla was born in Pavia in 1757 and spent most of his life in Milan, where he was orchestra director of La Scala for 30 years. He also taught violin and viola at the local conservatory - Paganini was also one of his students for some time - and performed as a soloist. His preference for the viola (as well as in his Viola Concerto) is expressed in his predominantly chamber music compositions – duos, trios, quartets for strings, viola sonatas.

The duo impresses above all with its sonorous sound character and the balance of the two voices.
