This sonata movement in E flat major, which Beethoven himself described as a "duet with two obbligato eyeglasses", is the composer's only completed work for this instrumentation.

The edition includes - in addition to a score - 2 transpositions, which allow the duet to be performed with 2 violas or to be performed with two cellos.

A playful, cheerful piece; nicely balanced in both voices; surprisingly bold harmonic twists.
