First edition
The sonatas and partitas for violin alone by J. S. Bach - composed around 1720 during his time in Anhalt-Köthen - are unique masterpieces. The "Sei Solo a Violino senza Basso accompagnato", as the author describes it on the title page, is valued by many violinists as the pinnacle of this literary genre.
What could be more obvious than making this great music accessible to cello players as well?
While the 3 sonatas because of the - partly 4-part fugues - as well as the Chiaconna from the 2nd Sonatas are less suitable for performance on the violoncello, the partitas with their suite form can also be performed wonderfully on this instrument.
The output is set up in such a way that the player can understand any deviation from the original - in slurs or ornaments. Edited, transposed and prepared for practical use, the new edition was based on Bach's handwritten original.
The technical difficulty (1-10) is 5
