Bartók, Hungarian composer, pianist and ethnomusicologist - he has collected over 10000 folk songs - composed the 44 Duos for 2 violins in 1931, in which he uses melodies of folk songs. This music contains a melodic - rhythmic richness and a cosmos of differentiated expression variants, which makes each of the duos an unmistakable character piece.
The violin's possibilities for two-part playing are used in a clever way by letting the empty strings run along, so that the impression of great sonority is created with relatively simple means.
The first volume contains the shorter 30 duos, 14 more make up the 2nd volume. Band. Each edition contains 2 performance scores in which the other part is reproduced in cue size.
The pieces range from technically very simple to - especially rhythmically - more demanding pieces in the 2nd Band. In the case of none of the duos, the scope of the 1st position exceeded.
